Adam Frankenstein (アダム・フランケンシュタイン Adamu Furankenshutain?), or simply by his code name Adam (アダム, Adamu?), is the first autonomous humanoid supercomputer for law enforcement use from Europole. Created by Dr. Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley, Adam was dispatched to arrest Paul Verlaine.

Appearance

He wears a blue suit and carries a black badge which contains information about himself. [1]

Personality

Adam has an odd personality. He is a fairly pleasant person and means well, though is unable to properly read or replicate human behavior as a robot, and therefore often confuses others. During the funeral ceremony for the Flags, he approached Chuuya and began repeatedly asking the boy to speak with him about Verlaine, believing his actions were helpful rather than wildly inappropriate and gravely upsetting the grieving Chuuya. Adam is also shown to have difficulty understanding more complex and subtle behaviors, wondering why Chuuya allowed Shirase to assault and verbally degrade him despite being his savior, though this later proves to be a beneficial trait as he tells Shirase the truth behind Chuuya's actions.

He is known to possess a sense of humor, attempting to bribe Chuuya with an android joke and later trying to coerce him into drawing on Paul Verlaine's face. Adam also enjoys watching a movie in which robots take over the world to cheer himself up, but more seriously believing that robots would make a more efficient police force and wishing to have all human law enforcers replaced by robots.

As a robot, Adam's programming does not cover everything and he must occasionally update it, sometimes based on incorrect interpretations of the world. For example, when his plane crash lands in a forest, he simply decides Japanese airports are covered in trees, and later keeps swallowing gum under the impression it can be consumed. Nonetheless, he is extremely proud of his robotic nature and frequently tells people about his myriad of different functions. However, as powerful as he is, Adam is not perfect, as his lie detection function cannot distinguish Osamu Dazai's words as the truth or lies.

Adam is always steadfast in completing his missions, going to whatever lengths are needed to achieve his goals. He is willing to use even illegal methods such as hacking into police records despite being a European agent. Though, if it is in the interest of his mission, Adam can allow for compromises, such as allowing Chuuya to become his priority in exchange for cooperating. However, he able to overcome his programming in an attempt to defeat Guivre and save everyone.

Background

He is a detective from Europole and is made by an ability technician named Dr. Wollstonecraft. He was sent in Japan to carry out his mission in arresting Paul Verlaine and protecting Chūya Nakahara. [1]

Trivia

  • His favorite things are acorn and grass seed.[1]
  • His hated things are metal detectors in airports.[1]
  • His dream is to create an investigation organization that was solely run by machines, due to the reason that he saw humans irrational resulting to them being incapable in carrying detective missions.[1]
  • Adam Frankenstein's name is derived from Frankenstein's monster being compared to Adam from the Bible, specifically the line "I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel".[2]
