Bungo Stray Dogs the Movie: BEAST (映画「文豪ストレイドッグス BEAST」, Eiga Bungō Sutorei Doggusu BEAST) is a live-action film based on the novel Bungo Stray Dogs: BEAST.[1] It features the actors from the series' stage plays, including Shōhei Hashimoto as Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and Yūki Torigoe as Atsushi Nakajima, alongside new cast members.[2]
The film was released on January 7, 2022.[3] A novel by Kafka Asagiri entitled "Bungo Stray Dogs: The Day I Picked Up Dazai" was given to the attendees of the first and second weeks of filming.

In July 2019, the title of the film was announced during the performance of Bungo Stray Dogs on Stage: Three Companies Conflict. On April 1, 2020, the film's website posted comments from Shōhei Hashimoto and Yūki Torigoe, who will reprise their respective characters from the stage plays.[4] Torigoe also stated that actors from the stage play will appear in the film along with new cast members.[2]

On May 07, 2020, the film's official Twitter account released the first visualization[5] together with the announcements of the stage play performances of Bungo Stray Dogs on Stage: Hashigaki and Bungo Stray Dogs on Stage: DEAD APPLE.[6] On the same day, the film's official website was launched.[7]

On September 10, 2021, the film's Twitter account released its first title visual and a teaser stating "No one knows what the future holds" (未来は誰にもわからない, Mirai wa darenimo wakaranai?), alongside a seven-day countdown on its official website that ends on September 17, 2021.[8][9][10] Teasers were also released beginning on September 11, 2021, with one teaser image being posted on the film's Twitter account each succeeding day.[11]

A week later, on September 17, 2021, the film's first teaser trailer was posted, and the release date was set to be January 7, 2022.[3] In addition, the cast and staff for the film were unveiled, with actors from the stage plays, including the first and second performances, reprising their roles. Rui Tabuchi, Dazai's stage actor from the fifth and sixth stage plays, was announced to play the character in the film, while Ayaka Konno joined the stage play actors to portray Gin. Kōichi Sakamoto was announced as the film's director, and Kafka Asagiri wrote the screenplay.[12]
On November 07, 2021, the official movie poster,[13] together with some cutscenes of the characters were revealed at the official twitter and website.[14][15] It is also decided that GRANRODEO will be in charge of the movie's theme song.[16] On November 25 and December 10, 2021, additional cutscenes were unveiled.[17][18] On December 20, 2021, the final pre-screening for the movie was held.[19] From December 22, 2021, a 16-day countdown was launched on the film's Twitter account, with a video of one cast member being posted daily leading to its release.[20] On January 03, 2022 additional action battle scenes were unveiled.[21]

The film's music was composed by Taku Iwasaki, who also worked on the music of the anime, its spinoff, and Bungo Stray Dogs: DEAD APPLE. The theme song of the film is Tokei Mawari no Toruku (時計回りのトルク, lit. "Clockwise Torque"), performed by GRANRODEO[16] who also performed various themes in the anime. Both the original soundtrack and the theme song were released on January 07, 2022, the same day of the film's release.[22][23][24]
