Chapter 1 is the first chapter of the Bungo Stray Dogs (Vertical Comic).
Summary[]
Atsushi dying and starving.
A boy is seen struggling and dying of hunger while thinking of the food the used to eat at the orphanage consisting of a bowl of chazuke. The boy's name reveals to be Atsushi. He was kicked out of their orphanage without anything to eat, a place to sleep and not describes himself as not brave enough to steal.
The man asks Atsushi if he is the one who saved him.
While telling himself that he needs to robs or steal in order to live, he remembers what the staff at the orphanage told they don't need someone like him telling that he can go cie in a ditch somewhere. However, Atsushi erases the thought and tells himself that he refuses to go that easily
He vows to himself that he needs to live and will attack the next man who passes by him and steal all his money, he then notices a man drowning in the river and immediately rescues him.
The man's colleague appears.
The man asks Atsushi if he is the one who saved him and tells Atsushi that he hindered his attempt at suicide. The man then apologizes to Atsushi for causing him trouble because he thought it would be a clean suicide. The man then tries to offer some sort of recompense for the consequece. Suddenly, Atsushi's stomach began to growl. Hearing this, the man asks Atsushi if he was hungry, Atsushi reveals that he has not eaten for three days. The man's stomach also growls and replies that he is also hungry but his wallet got washed away in the river. Atsushi responds that he thought that the man will at least treat him to lucnh for rescuing him. The man tilts his head in confusion.
Another man appears on the other side of the river who is apparently looking for his colleague.
