Dr. Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley, also simply referred to as Dr. Wollstonecraft (ウォルストンクラフト博士, Worusutonkurafuto-hakase?), is an ability user engineer affiliated with Europole, who created Adam Frankenstein.
Appearance[]
Dr. Wollstonecraft has a generally youthful appearance and is often mistaken by others to be a child, though she asserts that she is simply a petite adult. She has blond hair and wore large glasses that cover half her face. She also dons a white lab coat where at least 20 medals are pinned for her scientific contributions.[1]
In the stage play adaptation, Dr. Wollstonecraft wears a white brimmed hat over her long blond hair and wears large circular glasses. Her outfit comprises a white dress shirt with a brown checkered necktie tucked underneath a light blue double-breasted waistcoat, matching-colored trousers, and black shoes. Her lab coat is also oversized, making her hands kept hidden beneath its sleeves.[3]
Personality[]
Dr. Wollstonecraft is a generally outgoing and cheerful individual. However, she is lauded by others as a genius apart from her ability that allows her to design anything she wants, even being deemed as a "child prodigy" by those whom she says only looks at her and her achievements on surface level. Moreover, she is also known by her peers as someone who does not take kindly to others, even the Queen herself, touching her personal belongings. Otherwise, she is said to "scream and cry like a child".
As a person of science, Dr. Wollstonecraft cares deeply for her scientific creations, including Adam, and was initially against sending him to a dangerous solo mission over dispatching a human detective. Hence, describing herself an ill-natured woman, she even went as far as going behind the government's back to ensure a backup on Adam's system in case he and his memories become compromised during the investigation. She would also impart words of advice towards the android about human nature and gave him a subroutine to allow him to "follow [his] heart".
Ability[]
- Main article: Design Ability
This unnamed ability allows Dr. Wollstonecraft to design anything she wants. She accounts most of her scientific achievements to this ability.
Skills[]
- Intelligence: Dr. Wollstonecraft is a scientific genius in the field engineering, garnering her at least 20 medals that recognized her prowess and contributions in the academe. She was also able to create the first autonomous humanoid supercomputer for law enforcement use in the form of Adam and quite possibly later Eve Frankenstein, a second of his kind, as his partner in cases.
Background[]
At some point, Dr. Wollstonecraft crafted Adam and has then dispatched him on various cases as sanctioned by Europole. One of their recurring cases is the arrest of King of Assassins Paul Verlaine, who has proven quite difficult to be captured by national security efforts.
King of Assassins Incident[]
After eight major figures have been assassinated and the Queen almost executed by Verlaine, Dr. Wollstonecraft and Adam approached the investigation in a new direction by seeking the aid of Chūya Nakahara, whom Verlaine considers as his younger brother. Dr. Wollstonecraft was initially against sending Adam to Japan for the operation, which was also a high-risk mission due to the probability of having to use the ability weapon known as the Shell built inside Adam at some point of the mission, though she eventually agrees to dispatch him.
After the entire incident where Adam detonates the Shell and self-destructed to save Chūya from Verlaine during a climactic standoff against the latter's singularity, Dr. Wollstonecraft and other engineering advisers headed to Japan to investigate with the Port Mafia. She also reveals to Chūya about having restored Adam and his memories using a backup system she had installed. Subsequently, Dr. Wollstonecraft was presumed to create Eve, another autonomous humanoid supercomputer and Adam's partner.[1]
Quotes[]
- (To Adam Frankenstein) "It will come the moment you think things are going well. The beast known as failure is always drawn to the stench of success, where it finds and devours its unfortunate prey."[1]
- (To Adam Frankenstein) "What does it feel like to be a machine?"[1]
- (To Chūya Nakahara about Adam Frankenstein) "What makes Adam especially incredible is that he was programmed with intelligence that allowed him to think and make decisions for himself. In other words, Adam decided to sacrifice himself of his own accord. He must have felt you were worth that much."[1]
- (To Chūya Nakahara) "The government is always like this. They send a mechanical detective, then blow him up once they're done to keep any secret information from getting out. All the best trial data comes from these machines' social interactions with different cultures during solo missions! I suppose this is the government's way of saying we ought to neglect science in favor of human life!"[1]
