In Lament of My Wingless Body (翅無き身の悲しきかな, Hane Naki Mi no Kanashiki ka na?) is the 47th episode of Bungo Stray Dogs anime series and the tenth episode of the fourth season. It aired on March 8, 2023.
Synopsis[]
Tanizaki, Miyazawa, and Yosano head to the site where Yosano is scheduled to be handed off to the Port Mafia.[1]
Summary[]
Secretly escaping from the Mafia hideout, Yosano, Tanizaki, and Kenji head out to complete the transaction with Francis, only to find the Black Lizard commanders already at the site debating on what to do with the Agency. Tachihara proposes to kill the detectives for disrespecting Mori's warning by continuing with the transaction despite being a possible trap, but Hirotsu reminds him that the boss's orders for them are to protect the Agency at all costs, having anticipated the Agency's plan beforehand.
Nonetheless, Yosano assures them that the deal with Francis is not a trap, trusting Atsushi's judgment regarding Francis's plan. En route to the transaction site, Atsushi becomes hopeful at the potential of saving the Agency, especially with the prospect of getting back together to show their real strength as one. Kenji soon notices the ambulance arrive; the vehicle explodes as he goes near it. The group is immediately surrounded by the military police, and Kenji gets stabbed by a Hunting Dogs saber, confirming the transaction to be a trap indeed.
However, Francis affirms to have not sided with the military police despite 74 of Louisa's 78 proposals selling them out as a way to make up for crashing the Moby Dick. Francis reminds Louisa of the time they reunited after the fall of the Guild and admits perceiving the Agency as winners in their own right, reason enough for him to side with and believe in them in their fight.
As the group fends against the MP, Yosano notices and grows suspicious of a figure wearing a raincoat before them. The hooded figure then manipulates the saber on Kenji; with Tanizaki unable to remove it, Hirotsu blasts it off with his ability and leads the group to a secret escape route. Meanwhile, the Hunting Dogs receive word from the squads for assistance.
Yosano heals Kenji, while Hirotsu updates the group of the Mafia barely holding its defenses against the troops. He grows wary that the five Hunting Dogs will come, but Yosano claims that one of them has already arrived, possibly the hooded figure. With the Hunting Dogs' highly unmatched prowess, Yosano decides for the three of them to split up despite Tanizaki's and Kenji's initial reluctance. The three then promise to one another that whoever survives will rebuild the Agency no matter what, afterward splitting up to their individual escape routes.
Atsushi, aboard the real ambulance with Kyōka and Margaret, hears some fighting and familiar footsteps underground, subsequently finding Yosano. As the doctor heals Margaret, she tells them of Francis's betrayal with his trap transaction. However, Atsushi refutes that Francis looks after his employees and would possibly only frame the Agency after Margaret's treatment. Though she accepts his claim, Yosano wonders how the MP knew of the transaction site.
As they prepare to leave, Atsushi sees the ambulance driver dead, and Yosano finds the hooded figure to have killed them. With the figure confronting them, Yosano urges Atsushi and Kyōka to leave the hooded figure to her and deliver Margaret to Francis in exchange for proving the Agency's innocence. Once they depart, Yosano faces the hooded figure, who shows her the same tallied dog tag from the soldier she befriended during the war.
The figure attacks a petrified Yosano with their controlled saber, but Gin and Tachihara step in to save her. Hirotsu soon arrives and breaks the saber with Falling Camellia. He directs them to go to the underground boat ahead but gets gravely stabbed with a saber shard. Stopping Yosano from treating him, Hirotsu urges the three to escape, leaving him with the hooded figure to attack him with a barrage of the remaining shards.
Gin, Tachihara, and Yosano reach the escape route guarded by a blast door. Yosano considers the possibility of the hooded figure to be the soldier from the past, being a Hunting Dog and war veteran, having a metal-related ability, and knowing about her "Angel of Death" moniker, albeit dismissing it after confirming his death when she tried and failed many times to resuscitate him back then. Tachihara places a proximity bomb at the doorway to blow up anyone trying to open the door.
Yosano asks Tachihara and Gin to escape through the boat and leave the hooded figure to her, thinking that the latter is getting revenge on her. Tachihara asserts his confidence as a mafioso and talks of having turned to crime for hating being compared to his exemplary older brother. He was later found by an organization where he found himself to be an entirely different person, claiming that orders make him who he is, even if those orders would kill him.
Gin suddenly stabs Tachihara and later herself with her own blade, which is being controlled by the hooded figure. With the door never being opened and the bomb still intact, Yosano confronts the so-called ghost from her past. In Meursault, Fyodor asks Dazai if he knows about the fifth Hunting Dog; answering no, Dazai is told about the member having an old, fateful connection with the Agency.
Yosano engages with the hooded figure and shoots at them using Tachihara's gun, but to no avail. The figure soon attacks her with the boat, though also to no avail. Recognizing that Fukuzawa and Ranpo both forgave her for her sins long ago and that she is now the only one who does not, Yosano grips the figure, who fires at her using Tachihara's gun. Yosano quickly recuperates with her ability and slams the figure against the door, setting off the proximity bomb to save the Agency and accept her punishment.
However, the bomb turns out to be a fake, and the figure is a metal mannequin, arousing suspicion that the enemy must have been close by since their escape. Recognizing the mannequin from near the transaction site earlier, Yosano gets stabbed in her leg by the metal-manipulation ability. As the door opens to the four Hunting Dogs before her, Tachihara introduces himself as the fifth Hunting Dog.
Since then, a part of the MP as an undercover agent for the Mafia to keep an eye on Mori for knowing military secrets, Tachihara reveals that the soldier from Yosano's past is his older brother and that he volunteered to be sent to the Mafia, knowing that he might one-day cross paths with Yosano. Acknowledging that Tachihara aims to avenge his brother, Yosano accepts her fate as Tachihara points his gun at her and fires.
