Tsujimura meets up with a reporter named Toriguchi.
Tsujimura meets with a reporter named Toriguchi who is responsible for writing an article about the Mizuha River Well in a gossip magazine. Tsujimura obtained information about the well from Toriguchi sharing that story of his his lawyer friend who defended a man who is a suspect for the house fire in his house, killing the four family members. Toriguchi further gives Tsujimura a crucial information saying that the man called the well a "mini-shrine".

Ayatsuji and Tsujimura arrive at the well's location.
Tsujimura and Ayatsuji then head to the well's location. Near the well, they find four bamboo blades and six round stones. Ayatsuji deduces that the objects are related to a curse. The two then leave the area. Tsujimura tells that they need to lab check the objects and they have to find other leads as it is only a regular well. However, Ayatsuji tells otherwise saying that the well is their first and last lead for the case. He then shares about a common thread among ghost stories - that being having wells and spirits dwelling in them. Ayatsuji deduces that the culprit has a thing for wells and the culprit set it up to look like the well is haunted.

Tsujimura asks Ayatsuji if he have identified the criminal and details of crime.
Intrigued, Tsujimura asks Ayatsuji if he already identified the culprit of the crime. Just then. Ayatsuji orders Tsujimura to check the vicinity of the well tomorrow and there should be something on it. He further asks Tsujimura about what the reporter said to her about the well, and tells that the well is a test to establish evil and urges Tsujimura that they need to catch the culprit who created the setup or more murder rates will multiply by hundred in the country. He then orders Tsujimura to look at the well with a colleague and looks forward to her performance.
