The Hostage Crisis Incident (人質事件, Hitojichi Jiken?) is the event that led to the Armed Detective Agency being framed as the terrorists and murder society, Decay of the Angel.[1]
Description[]
The hostage crisis incident took place after a secret meeting of top government officials about indicting the Armed Detective Agency for the crimes they committed[1]. According to Tonan, this includes housing a killer of thirty-five, colluding with the Mafia, and having a doctor who allegedly killed patients in her military years.[2]
Summary[]
Nikolai Gogol held 9 government officials hostage while giving a message to the Agency. Gogol states three things about the hostage crisis:
- The government officials are being held using a machine to which he refers to as the "Chainsaw a man in half" magic show.
- If anyone aside from the Agency members butt in, the chainsaws will start.
- The chainsaws will rev up at 1800 hours sharp.
Upon receiving Gogol's message, the Agency takes on the action to rescue the hostages by sending Atsushi first to the place and making Kenji in charge of the military police in order to keep them from interfering. Soon, the rest of the agency members arrived at the location.
Meanwhile, Ranpo sets out on his own in order to know the Decay of the Angel's goals only to find the chief of Special Division for Unusual Powers, Santōka Taneda heavily wounded.

The military police keep their watch on the criminals who are wearing white hoods.[3] The Agency members soon arrive outside the room where the hostages are being held and the government officials except Tonan are being killed using the chainsaw. As soon as the Agency members plan to go in the room, they suddenly find themselves inside the hostage room wearing the white suits and white hoods. Meanwhile, Gogol is also seen being held hostage and cut into half along with the other government officials.
The Agency labeled as the terrorist group, Decay of the Angel.
Tonan relays a message to the military police stating that the terrorist group Decay of the Angel is the Armed Detective Agency.[1]After the Armed Detective Agency has been labeled as the Decay of the Angel, the military police's strongest unit is dispatched to locate them.[4]
At the aftermath, government announcements and flyers of the Agency's faces labeled as criminals were distributed. The topic of the Agency disguising as a terrorist group and rumors of their solved cases being staged were also talked about.[5]
