Iceman (
Appearance
He had short hair that was slightly swept and parted so that a small area of his forehead was visible. A vertical scar ran perpendicular his closed right eye. He wore a simple black overcoat and an untied light-colored scarf hanging on his neck over his suit that comprised a white shirt, a vest, slacks, and a necktie. He also donned dark gloves, and he was almost always seen smoking a cigarette. He was said to have typically carried a knife on his person.
Personality
As what his alias states, Iceman had a quiet and cold-hearted personality. He did not show much emotion and always kept a low profile, which was reflected in his preference of wearing simple clothing. However, Iceman was actually soft-spoken and kind, and he was simply a good-natured man who spent his spare time enjoying coffee or listening to records—a side not many people knew about. He also claimed that he would not bear any grudges.
Skills
- Physical Prowess: Iceman was highly skilled in combat, known for his resourcefulness in using any nearby weapon that could become a murdering tool to kill, such as a pen, a bottle of booze, a lamp cord, or a cue stick. Without using an ability, guns, or knives for his job, Iceman was capable of killing anywhere, whether it was in a desert, a palace, or a bank vault. Moreover, Iceman had quick reaction time and speed similar to his fellow Flags. Most mafiosi even believed that Iceman would be the one most likely to kill Chūya Nakahara, an expert combatant himself.
- Stealth: Iceman had the expertise of blending well with his surroundings like a shadow. He was never once been detected in the radars of the Special Division for Unusual Powers or the military police's Skilled Crime Task Force. Moreover, he was able to sneak into eight different buildings to swipe various documents and records with relative ease.
- Sharp Intuition: Iceman had the extraordinary talent of sensing whenever someone was using an ability near him. This allowed him to discern the most suitable time and place to kill someone.
Background
The second-most senior in the Flags after Piano Man, Iceman's job in the Mafia was to kill. After his kill ratio became higher than the average combat-type ability user, the Mafia placed their trust in him. At one point, Iceman was apparently sent but failed to assassinate Chūya, then the Sheep King, who would later become his comrade as part of the Flags.
King of Assassins Incident
Together with Piano Man, Albatross, Doc, and Lippmann, Iceman congratulated Chūya for his first-year anniversary in joining the Mafia. With the latter in a bad mood that day more so after learning that he was invited to the Flags to be kept under watch, Iceman echoed the question that pissed Chūya during one incident—where he was born—and sent Chūya in a fit of rage towards Iceman. Chūya attacked Iceman that even tore his shirt's seams, while Iceman had a cue stick aimed at the boy's temple; and a skirmish broke out between the two.
The others, especially Piano Man, soon thwarted the brawl and gave Chūya a photograph of him in his childhood as their gift for his anniversary. Iceman also gave him other records of his parents’ siblings, their family tree, where he went to school along with his grades and school photos, and his birth records after sneaking through eight buildings, which Iceman deemed to be nothing special. Afterwards, the the Flags played billiards in their usual place, where an unknown man suddenly joined them.
The Flags engaged with the man named Adam, suspecting that he was an ability user and may infiltrate the Mafia facility, more so after learning that he was a detective. However, this misconception was soon relieved once Adam revealed that his mission was to protect him and arrest an assassin named Paul Verlaine. The seven soon continued playing billiards, with Iceman flatly confirming that Adam was indeed not a human due to his extraordinary skills. Soon after, Adam grabbed Chūya away from the place to show the proof that Verlaine was alive, leaving the Flags behind.
During Chūya's absence, Iceman and the other Flags were "summoned" by the boss, Ōgai Mori, but they were actually ambushed by Verlaine. Chūya returned soon after, where he found Iceman dead amidst the other Flags' corpses.
Legacy
A funeral was held for Iceman and the other Flags the following day after their deaths. He would later appear in a trance-like vision to Chūya alongside the other Flags. Additionally, Iceman and the Flags were buried in a well-kept graveyard near the mountains, which Chūya frequently visited after the King of Assassins Incident.[1]
Quotes
- (To Chūya Nakahara) "…I didn't do anything special. I found records of your parents' siblings, their family tree, where you went to school along with your grades and school photos. I found your birth records, too. Piano Man told me not to let the boss know we were looking into this, so I couldn't go to an information broker. I had to sneak into eight different buildings myself to get these."[1]
Etymology
The nickname Iceman is written in kanji that means "cold-blooded" (冷血, reiketsu?).
