Ryūnosuke Akutagawa vs. André Gide is a battle fought between Port Mafia member Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and Mimic leader André Gide.
It happened during the Port Mafia and Mimic's shootout at the art museum.
Prologue[]
The Port Mafia and Mimic engage in a shootout consisting of nine Mimic soldiers and four Port Mafia members. During the battle in which the Mimic is dominating the battle, Akutagawa appears before them and slices up most of the soldiers. Soon after, a Mimic personal carrier appears with new soldiers. The personal carrier shoots a signal flare into the air, causing the remaining surviving Guild soldiers to cease fire and retreat.
Shortly after, Mimic's leader appears.
Battle[]
After the Mimic's leader's appearance, the Port Mafia guards rush over in unison pointing their guns at him. Akutagawa uses his Rashōmon to boung the Mimic leader's hands and feet together before dragging him into his knees. Akutagawa orders the man to state the name which reveals to be André Gide, who challenges Akutagawa to fight him. Akutagawa reveals that he did not cut his head off yet as he learns that Gide is an ability user after punching that latter on the face. Akutagawa swiped the old fashioned gun from Gide's waist, points it at him and orders Gide to show his ability and he will fulfill his desired match with him. However, Gide describes Akutagawa's ability to be lacking and not enough to free his soul from original sin.
Hearing this, Akutagawa responds by slashing toward Gide. Gide, on the other hand, leaned forward and is able to skim the gun from Akutagawa. As soon as the gun left from Akutagawa's hand, he accidentally pulled the trigger. One of the belts around Gide reacted by enveloping the bullet and stopping it before it could reach Akutagawa. This result to Gide's left hand being freed from Akutagawa's restrains and be able to shot the mafioso next to Akutagawa. The bullet struck him causing the mafioso's automatic rifle to fire three bullets, one being able to pierce right through Akutagawa's arm while the remaining two hit the two mafiosi.
Akutagawa attacks Gide.
Akutagawa is taken aback by Gide and blocks Gide's incoming shots, resulting to him totally undoing Gide's restrains and freein him. Gide picks up his other gun and shoots other mafiosi. Soon after, Gide is able to shoot Akutagawa in his abdomen resulting for the latter to fell back and cough up blood. Akutagawa uses his Rashōmon as tourniquet for his wounds, resulting him to having less fabric to use for attacking. Gide stood with both pistols drawn telling that if Aktuagawa has more experience, things would have been different and describes him as nothing more than a little black duckling.

Akutagawa launches and attack but Gide shot them right down. While being pointed by a gun, Akutagawa aks Mimic what are they trying to accomplish by attacking the Mafia's territory. Gide responds that they accomplish for nothing but just want their souls to cease to exist. Akutagawa then tells Gide to kill him and regrets that he couldn't be the enemy he is looking for. Just as he is about to shoot, Sakunosuke Oda appears and hits the pistol out of Gide's hand.
Aftermath[]
Akutagawa is rescued by Oda and quickly leaves the scene.
Novel and Anime Differences[]
- In the novel, Akutagawa originally slices up the Mimic soldiers instead of piercing them.[1]
- During Akutagawa's battle with other Mimic soldiers, there are still left who survived. Eventually, a Mimic personal carrier appeared with new soldiers and shot a signal flare causing the remaining surviving Guild soldiers to cease fire and retreat.[1]In the anime, Akutagawa kills all of them and the Mimic leader shortly appears right after.[2]
- In the original battle, mafioso appears behind Akutagawa short after Gide's appearance.[1] In the anime. Akutagawa fights Gide alone.[2]
- Gide is originally the one who asks for a match,[1]unlike in the anime which is Akutagawa.[2]
- In the novel, Akutagawa restrains Gide and steals his gun.[1]
- Akutagawa originally suffer wounds on his arm and abdomen.[1]In the anime, he is only shot at the leg.[2]
